Chioggia and Surroundings

Chioggia is a fascinating destination for its natural and architectural beauties, for its long beach with clear and fine sand, for the traditional feasts which follow the Calendar and the ancient history of the town (Carnival, the Patron Saints’ day, the Marciliana’s Palio, the Fish Festival) and for the theatre plays and musical shows which are performed in its great Arena, in the ancient Auditorium, in cloisters, “campielli” and squares. Venice is just one hour away by car, bus or boat; for many people it is the most beautiful city in the world and should be visited at least once in a lifetime. Also Padua, with its ancient University, the frescos by Giotto and St Anthony’s Basilica, can be reached by public transport or by car in one hour. It is also pleasant to spend a day in Abano’s and Montegrotto’s spa in the Euganean Hills as well as in Verona , Vicenza and Treviso , historical centres which can be easily reached from Chioggia . The Brenta Riviera, with its Venetian villas, it is certainly worth a daily excursion. Comacchio, Ravenna and Ferrara are other places which can be chosen for an interesting trip. The isles of the estuary (Pellestrina, Murano, Burano and Torcello) are the final destinations for a number of boats which daily sail from the historical centre of Chioggia , while the Po Delta and the fishing marshes are picturesque destinations very close to Chioggia.
